Category: Zone BBS Q&A
I've got an old account, #3095, that I created sometime in the beginning of 2006, and promptly forgot about. So when I created this one in, I believe, August of the same year, one of the community leaders apparently took it upon themselves to disable the old one. For this reason, I can't change my username to just Simon.
I know it's a relatively small thing, but I'd like to be able to get this name back. I'm wondering if one of the admins or community leaders could somehow change the name on that old account, and let me know so I could change mine. I only used the numbers because Simon wasn't available at the time, and this was the username I had at the time for everything else. SO if I could change my current username to Simon, I think it would make things a lot more simple.
I realize this is a bit of trouble to go to for just one user though, so I'll understand if the answer is no. I just thought I'd put it out here, in the hopes that something simple and hassle free could be done.
Also, if contcting support directly would be a better option, do let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Also, I realize the way I worded that post could be taken as accusing the community leader in question. Just to be clear, I put myself most at fault for not remembering the existence of the older account.
The way you suggested of going about it won't work since even if the name on the old account is changed, I believe usernames are not recycled back in to the system so you wouldn't be able to get that name back. The only way I see this working is for someone on the staff to reactivate your old account and disable your current one (simon4599). Duplicate accounts has always been a grey area around here. I also seem to recall that you were banned for something else on this account, am I correct? That'll affect things, as staff never forget, apparently. Besides I believe all T.O.S. violations are logged. Try contacting a CL or admin directly to try and sort this out.

You're right. On the username change page, it claims that I can't change to a username that has been used in the past by someone, even if that's no longer their name. That's a bit frustrating. I don't particularly want to lose this account, though getting the name back would be nice. I'll try contacting them.
